PONDA: After the low-key celebration for two years, this time, it was a grand idol immersion festival at Adpoi.
Thousands of devotees participated in Adpoi traditional five days of Ganesh idol immersion.
The traditional Jointly Celebration of Chaturthi and unique tradition of five days of Ganesh idol immersion with float procession on mythological concepts by around 17 families in Adpoi Village, in Ponda Taluka, attracts a large crowd from Goa especially to watch the Floats procession on the evening on the fifth day with religious fervour.
North Goa MP and Union Minister Shreepad Naik is also among these families and joined the annual celebration.
The Village has a unique trend of celebrating Chaturthi with whole family members, and these families or Kutumbs have spread into nuclear families and live across the state or outside but come together as an entire family to celebrate the Ganesh festival every year.
Khunebatkar, Borkar, Khandepar, Sadanand Naik, Sripad Naik, Vastha, Taribhat, Mule, Tari, and Mardolkar families worship the common Ganesh idol to celebrate the festival.
Each of the seventeen families has members of around 100 to 150 members.
During the fifth day of idol immersion, all seventeen families make an equal number of floats based on the mythological concept where each family’s idol on each float is carried during the idol immersion procession. All the family members dance to the tune of drums chanting Ganpati Bappa Morya, Jay Vithal and Bhajans.
The idols were immersed in the Zuari river.
