Baga: An unregistered boat, vessel number GOA – 1801 – WS, capsized near the shore at Baga Creek while returning from a ride with 18 passengers on board. Thanks to the swift response of Drishti Marine Lifeguards, all 18 individuals were safely rescued from the water. Two women were taken to GMC for observation as a precaution, though no injuries were reported. Following the incident, Department of Tourism officials seized the boat, owned by Mr. Ralph Mascarenhas, for operating without registration and compliance with the Department of Tourism.
The boat, which was discovered with its motors removed, was promptly secured by the officials. The Department of Tourism repeatedly emphasizes that the operation of unauthorized boats in Goa’s waters is a serious violation of state regulations and poses significant risks to passenger safety.
Minister for Tourism, Goa, Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte, added, “Unregistered boats not only jeopardize the safety of tourists but also undermine the standards we are setting for sustainable and responsible tourism in Goa. Let this incident serve as a clear message that we will not tolerate any violations. The Department of Tourism is committed to creating a secure and enjoyable experience for everyone visiting our beautiful state.”
Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director of Tourism, stated, “The safety and well-being of our visitors are our top priority. We will continue to take strict action against any unregistered activities in our waters. Boat operators must comply with all regulatory requirements to ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future.”
The Department of Tourism authorities have reiterated their commitment to strict enforcement measures against any individual or entity operating boats without proper registration or renewal. The Department’s stance is clear: unregistered boats will not be tolerated, and stringent action will be taken against those found in violation.
The safety and security of all visitors and residents are of paramount importance, and the Department of Tourism is dedicated to upholding the highest standards in operations related to tourism. We urge all boat operators to ensure that they comply with all legal requirements to avoid any disruption to their activities and to contribute to a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone in Goa. The Department of Tourism has issued a circular regarding this matter.
