PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has directed authorities to strengthen security at Colvale Central Jail following recent security concerns, ordering mandatory inspection of every vehicle entering the jail premises and a comprehensive review of existing security arrangements.
Speaking to reporters, Sawant said the Jail In-Charge has been instructed to conduct a detailed assessment of the prison’s security systems to ensure that no similar lapses occur in the future. He said stricter monitoring and surveillance measures will be implemented to enhance security at the facility.
The Chief Minister also appealed to the public to exercise extreme caution while visiting waterfalls during the ongoing monsoon season. He urged visitors to prioritise their safety, stating that precautionary measures are essential as heavy rainfall and strong water currents can make such locations dangerous.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to improve disaster preparedness, Sawant said the state has, for the first time, deployed a large fleet of modern emergency and firefighting vehicles simultaneously. He said the induction of the new vehicles would significantly strengthen rescue operations and enable faster emergency response across Goa.
