PANAJI: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has finalised the roadmap for its proposed ‘Goem Rakhon Yatra’, scheduled to commence on September 22, while reviewing key electoral and organisational issues during meetings of the PCC Office Bearers and the State Executive Committee held at the Congress headquarters in Panaji.
The meetings, chaired by GPCC President Girish Chodankar, were attended by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, former Union Minister Eduardo Faleiro, Working Presidents M.K. Shaikh and Sunil Kawthankar, Treasurer Datta Naik and other office-bearers and executive members.
The State Executive approved the broad framework for the Goem Rakhon Yatra, describing it as a statewide public outreach campaign aimed at connecting with people across Goa, raising awareness on issues affecting the state, and mobilising support to protect Goa’s identity, environment, constitutional values and the rights of its citizens.
The Executive also reviewed concerns surrounding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Party spokesperson Savio Coutinho briefed members on complaints received from across the state and stressed the need to ensure that every eligible voter is able to exercise their constitutional right without discrimination or administrative hurdles.
A detailed discussion was also held on the proposed ward delimitation for the forthcoming Municipal Council elections. Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sanghatan Chairman Praveen Blaggan, who is coordinating the exercise, presented the party’s review of the draft proposals to ensure the delimitation process remains transparent, impartial and in accordance with democratic principles.
The State Executive also ratified the expulsion of Shamila Siddiqui and Manisha Usgaonkar from the Indian National Congress following the recommendations of the party’s Disciplinary Committee over alleged acts of indiscipline. The Executive noted that both leaders were given an opportunity to present their case before the committee arrived at its decision.
Addressing the meeting, GPCC President Girish Chodankar urged party leaders and workers to strengthen the organisation with discipline, unity and renewed commitment. He called on the cadre to intensify public outreach, take the party’s message to every household and continue opposing what he described as anti-people policies while safeguarding the interests and aspirations of Goa’s people.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution to build a stronger Congress organisation capable of effectively representing public concerns and providing a credible political alternative in Goa.
