CANACONA: Agonda Sarpanch, Fatima Rodrigues, resigns after remaining on the hot seat for just over 9-months.
According to sources, Rodrigues, who was elected unopposed and had a smooth run so far, being in the good books of Canacona MLA/Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, submitted her resignation papers at the end of last week and reportedly gave personnel as a reason for her step to submit the resignation for the post.
Her resignation has, however, surprised the villagers; however, when contacted, Rodrigues informed, ‘There is nothing unusual about my resignation.
“My resignation is as per our ruling group decision to amicably rotate the chair of Sarpanch amongst us. I was, however, supposed to resign after a year, but leaving the chair a few months before as we, with our family, will be out of the station this coming month. Because our panchayat should not suffer.
According to sources, the 4 – members of the rulling panchs are going to elect dy. Sarpanch Preetal Fernandes, elected as the youngest dy. Sarpanch last year, and another youngster in VP Agonda Canisha Fernandes will be elected to the post of Dy. Sarpanch.
In the seven members of Agonda Panchayat, all the panch –members are reportedly close to Canacona BJP MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar,
