OLD GOA: An elected member of the Village Panchayat of Santa Cruz, Inacio Domnic Pereira, has lodged a complaint with the Old Goa Police Inspector against Santa Cruz Sarpanch Jennifer De Oliveira and others, alleging that their actions caused an intentional financial loss of ₹1.80 lakh to the Village Panchayat while allegedly resulting in wrongful gain to the organisers of a sports tournament.
In his complaint dated October 29, 2026, Pereira stated that a message had been circulated across various WhatsApp groups announcing a sports tournament at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium. However, the venue was incorrectly mentioned in the publicity material as “Panaji, Goa”, despite the stadium falling within the jurisdiction of the Village Panchayat of Santa Cruz.
According to the complaint, on July 22, 2026, at around 4 pm, Pereira visited the Sports Authority of Goa office to verify the details. An official reportedly provided him with the organiser’s contact number, following which he contacted the organiser and pointed out the incorrect venue address. The organiser allegedly agreed to rectify the error.
Pereira further stated that he questioned the organiser about whether the mandatory No Objection Certificate (NOC) had been obtained from the Village Panchayat of Santa Cruz. The organiser reportedly informed him that the necessary permission had already been secured from the local body.
The complainant subsequently visited the Village Panchayat office and enquired with the Panchayat Secretary regarding the NOC and the permissions granted for the event.
In his complaint to the police, Pereira has sought action against the Sarpanch and others over the alleged irregularities, claiming that the matter resulted in financial loss to the Panchayat and wrongful benefit to the organisers.
The allegations are contained in the complaint submitted to the Old Goa Police, and further details are awaited.
