MARGAO: The Zonal Agriculture Office, Margao, has issued a notice directing inspections of plant nurseries, roadside plant sellers and mobile vendors dealing in fruit and ornamental plants to ensure compliance with the Goa Fruit and Ornamental Plant Nurseries (Regulation) Act, 1995.
The notice, issued by Zonal Agriculture Officer Shariff A.X. Furtado on July 27, 2026, states that the action follows complaints received from the Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN), reports forwarded by the Directorate of Agriculture’s head office, and media reports alleging that some persons are operating nurseries and selling plants without complying with the provisions of the Act.
Officials have been authorised to inspect nurseries, roadside plant sellers, mobile vendors and other establishments dealing in fruit and ornamental plants. During the inspections, officers will verify whether establishments possess a valid registration or licence under the Act and whether the registration certificate and mandatory signboard are displayed.
The notice directs occupiers, proprietors and vendors to extend full cooperation to inspecting officers and produce all relevant records, licences and documents whenever required.
It further states that any person found operating without a valid registration or in violation of the Act has been directed to apply for a fresh licence under the provisions of the Act within 30 days of receiving the notice.
The order has come into force with immediate effect. Copies of the notice have also been marked to the Director of Agriculture and the Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) for information.
