SANGUEM: Agriculture machinery worth around Rs 1.50 crore was distributed free of cost to nearly 250 farmers from Colomba and Vaddem in Sanguem constituency on Thursday, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai distributed the machinery to the beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY).
Addressing the gathering, Phal Dessai said serving farmers was an appropriate way to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday. He said the governments at the Centre and in Goa were working towards increasing farmers’ income and making agriculture more self-reliant.
The minister said access to modern agricultural machinery would help farmers reduce labour costs and improve productivity.
ZP member Rajeshree Gaonkar, Sarpanch Chandan Unandkar, former sarpanch Prajyot Gaonkar, Sarpanch Vaishali Naik, Deputy Sarpanch Suryakant Naik and ZAO Agresh Shirodkar were among those present on the occasion.
Farmers who received the machinery expressed their appreciation for the assistance, while panchayat members and Agriculture Department officials also attended the programme.
