New Delhi: A key operative associated with the Pakistan backed terror outfit Al Badr has been killed in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, according to security sources. Officials identified the deceased as Hamza Burhan, who was allegedly involved in propaganda operations, recruitment activities and online radicalisation linked to militant networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
Security agencies described his death as a major setback to Al Badr’s efforts to expand its influence in the Valley through digital propaganda and youth recruitment campaigns.
According to officials, Hamza Burhan played an important role in producing and circulating posters, videos and online content designed to radicalise local youth and promote anti India narratives. Investigators said he was deeply involved in the terror outfit’s strategy of using social media and psychological influence campaigns to attract vulnerable youngsters towards militancy.
Sources alleged that he also encouraged recruits to join militant groups and become involved in illegal activities, including drug related operations. Several individuals allegedly linked to such recruitment networks were later booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
Officials said Hamza Burhan functioned as an Over Ground Worker during the period surrounding the Pulwama terror attack and maintained connections with militant structures operating across the Line of Control.
Preliminary intelligence inputs indicate that he was killed in an internal dispute within the Al Badr outfit in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Sources said the conflict was reportedly linked to disagreements over financial distribution and control within the organisation.
Security officials noted that internal rivalry and funding disputes have increasingly weakened Pakistan backed terror groups operating from across the border. They added that militant organisations have struggled to rebuild influence after the abrogation of Article 370, leading to greater dependence on digital radicalisation and covert recruitment networks.
Officials further said the killing would weaken Al Badr’s recruitment machinery and disrupt its attempts to glorify militancy among Kashmiri youth. Security agencies also termed the development evidence of strong intelligence penetration into terror networks operating from Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
