PONDA: PONDA: The midnight dumping of a truckload of garbage cost a fine of Rs 2500 for truck drivers from Andhra Pradesh.
The action came following alert citizens at Khandepar caught a truck driver for dumping heaps of rotten watermelon stock at the roadside on NH at Kerya.
Complainant Rockey Dias said while he was moving, he suspected suspicious activity by a truck driver, and when he inspected, it was noticed that he was unloading rotten watermelons, which he had brought from Mapusa.
Rockey said despite no garbage dumping board, the incident took place.
Following this, Rockey filed a complaint at Ponda Police Station, and Police detained the truck driver. Since Panchayat has the power to issue fines, the Curti Khandepar Panchayat fined truck driver for Rs 2500 under the garbage disposal act.
Rockey, however unhappy with fines, said the fine amount should be more.
Sarpanch Sanjana Naik appreciated alert Citizen Rockey Dias for his action and support.
