PANAJI: In a move to resolve pending private forest rights claims, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has confirmed that all claims under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) will be disposed of by December 19, 2025.
Speaking on the progress of forest rights cases, Sawant revealed that out of a total of 10,500 applications, 870 have been successfully disposed of, while 949 applications have been rejected.
To expedite the process, the Chief Minister announced that a Special Gram Sabha will be convened on June 21, specifically aimed at addressing sanad-related issues.
This will include cases where communities are awaiting title deeds for forest lands.
In a bid to fast-track the process further, 150 sanads are ready for distribution, signaling a significant step toward providing rightful claims to forest-dwelling communities.
Additionally, special camps will be set up across six talukas on June 14, focusing on clearing the backlog of forest rights cases.
The camps are expected to help streamline the procedure and offer more localized support to applicants.
The move is part of the government’s broader effort to ensure that forest rights are recognized and addressed before the deadline in 2025.
