New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday extended birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing his political journey as an example of sacrifice, dedication and commitment to public service.
Prime Minister Modi, who was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat, turned 76 on Thursday. His official biography records his progression from work as an organisational worker to serving as Gujarat Chief Minister and later becoming Prime Minister.
Shah described Modi’s life as one centred on public service and said his journey from an ordinary party worker to the highest elected office demonstrated the importance of sustained commitment to national service.
He also highlighted what he described as the Prime Minister’s focus on welfare, development and governance, pointing to initiatives involving healthcare, housing, women’s empowerment, education, skills and entrepreneurship.
Shah cited programmes such as Ayushman Bharat, Startup India and Skill India, along with the National Education Policy, as examples of initiatives that he said have expanded opportunities for different sections of society.
The Home Minister also pointed to major infrastructure projects, including the Chenab Railway Bridge, improved road connectivity in the Northeast, Vande Bharat trains and semiconductor manufacturing facilities, while describing them as symbols of India’s changing infrastructure and industrial landscape.
On national security, Shah referred to measures including the removal of Article 370, surgical strikes, air strikes and Operation Sindoor. He said these actions reflected a shift in India’s approach to responding to security challenges.
Shah also highlighted efforts against Left Wing Extremism and peace agreements in the Northeast, linking them to the government’s broader focus on internal security.
He said workers who have served alongside Modi across different stages of his political career have had the opportunity to witness his evolution through various responsibilities.
Modi has served as Prime Minister since 2014 and began his third consecutive term in June 2024.
