Guwahati: The Assam Special Task Force (STF) has arrested six people for their alleged involvement in a financial fraud network operating through mule bank accounts. Investigators are also examining suspected links between the network and Pakistan based intelligence operatives.
The arrests followed intelligence inputs about financial fraud activities allegedly being conducted through mule accounts, with possible connections to intelligence operatives. Acting on the information, the STF registered a case and launched an investigation under the supervision of IGP STF Partha Sarathi Mahanta.
According to STF SSP Pranab Kumar Pegu, special teams carried out coordinated operations at multiple locations and arrested six suspects.
On October 28, three accused, identified as Marjina Begum, Rafizul Haque and Hemang Sudha, were arrested from three separate locations under Chandmari Police Station limits in Guwahati.
The operation continued over the following two days. On October 29, Rakib Hussain was arrested in Karnataka. On October 30, STF personnel apprehended Iftar Hussain from the Uzan Bazar area under Latasil Police Station limits and Arman Aziz Haque from Noonmati.
Pegu said the investigation had revealed several important details about the alleged financial fraud network. Investigators have also received further information suggesting the possible involvement of additional individuals.
The STF is examining whether financial transactions linked to the network have connections with Pakistan based intelligence operatives. However, further details have not been disclosed as the investigation remains ongoing.
The STF has confirmed that its operation is continuing and that additional action will be taken based on the findings and fresh intelligence inputs.
Investigators are now working to establish the full extent of the alleged network, identify other individuals involved and determine the nature of its suspected cross border connections.
