PANAJI: In a shocking incident, a medical officer was assaulted by a prisoner at Colvale Jail. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Goa State had condemned the assault on the doctor.
According to information from sources, the assault took place when the said prisoner had gone to the doctor for a routine checkup, during which he confronted the doctor about the food quality.
“It had been many days that the prisoners at the Colvale jail were complaining about the poor quality of good serves to them,” sources said.
IMA Goa State President Dr Rufino Monteiro said that he was very shocked that the Medical Officer at Colvale Jail was assaulted at this police facility where he expected the security to be foolproof.
“Adequate security must be provided for the doctor and his medical staff to get adequate protection from such attacks by the prisoners,” he said.
Meanwhile, the IMA has demanded that stern exemplary punishment should be meted out to the offending prisoner as a deterrent for the future.
