HYDERABAD: India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed his “shock” over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)’s decision to appoint Pat Cummins as captain. SRH sacked South African batter Aiden Markram after just one season, despite him leading their sister franchise, SunRisers Eastern Cape (SEC), to back-to-back SA20 league titles. SRH roped in Cummins for a price of INR 20.50 crore, before announcing that Australia’s World Cup-winning captain will lead the franchise in IPL 2024. Ashwin revealed that he didn’t saw the move coming, especially after what Markram achieved with SEC in the SA20 league. “SunRisers have hit two titles back to back at…

CHENNAI: Mustafizur Rahman set it up with his bagful of cerebral variations before Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube got the job done with their superlative finishing skills to script a comfortable six-wicket win for Chennai Super Kings over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL opener on Friday. CSK, who have not lost to RCB at home since 2008, thus kept their enviable record intact. Mustafizur, with his best ever IPL figures of 4/29 in four overs, was largely responsible for restricting RCB to 173 for six on a good batting track, where a 95-run sixth wicket stand off 50 balls…

MUMBAI: Despite facing a challenging month leading up to the 2024 Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer is determined to shift his focus towards leading the franchise, as it kickstarts the campaign on Saturday. Recently omitted from the BCCI central contracts list due to his perceived reluctance to participate in the Ranji Trophy, Iyer showcased his commitment to domestic cricket by notching up an impressive 95 runs in the final despite battling a recurring back injury. Although concerns lingered over his fitness, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) has granted Iyer clearance to participate in the IPL, albeit…

Goemkarponn Desk MARGAO: The Margao Special Court has allowed applications by Babush Monserrate seeking certified copies of the closure report filed by CBI before Judicial Magistrate First Class(JMFC), Panaji, as regards the original complaint and counter complaint filed by Monserrate and wife Jennifer against the police. Submission of original FIR before the court has also been permitted. The Margao Special Court was hearing the 2008 Panaji police station attack case. New Delhi: A Delhi police officer who had allegedly manhandled former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on the premises of a court in the city has now misbehaved with him, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has claimed. The AAP chief said this in an application filed in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court in which he has sought the removal of the officer from his security cordon. Male: Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has struck a reconciliatory tone after his anti-India rhetoric, saying India will continue to remain his country’s “closest ally” as he sought a debt relief from New Delhi. The Maldives owed approximately $400.9 million to India at the end of last year. Ever since taking oath as the President in November last year, the pro-China Maldivian leader has pursued a hardline stand towards India and within hours demanded that Indian military personnel operating three aviation platforms be repatriated from his country by May 10. On Thursday, in his first interview with the local media since…
