MAPUSA: The Goa Council of Ayurvedic and Other Allied Indian Systems of Medicine has approached the Mapusa Police, raising concerns over alleged illegal practices, misleading advertisements and possible financial exploitation of patients in the name of Ayurveda and AYUSH treatments.
In a complaint submitted on August 24, 2026, Council President Dr. Sneha Bhagwat urged police to examine establishments and practitioners allegedly making unverified claims about guaranteed treatments for serious medical conditions.
The Council has particularly raised concerns over advertisements and signboards promoting treatments “without operation” for conditions including piles, fistula and fissure.
The complaint also refers to Dr. A.K. Biswas – Piles Clinic, located at Pangam House, behind the Police Station at Ansabhat, Mapusa, which allegedly promotes specialised non-surgical treatment for such conditions.
Dr. Bhagwat expressed concern that misleading medical claims could put patients at risk and potentially result in vulnerable individuals being persuaded to pay substantial amounts for treatments based on unverified assurances.
The Council has requested the Mapusa Police Inspector to verify the establishments and claims, initiate appropriate legal action wherever violations are found, and take measures to prevent alleged unlawful or exploitative medical practices in Goa.
The complaint comes amid concerns over the use of the Ayurveda and AYUSH banner to promote treatments and medical claims that may require proper regulatory and medical scrutiny.
