New Delhi: Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen has returned to the top 10 of the Badminton World Federation men’s singles rankings for the first time since March last year, marking a major milestone in his comeback journey.
The Commonwealth Games champion and Paris Olympics semifinalist re-entered the top 10 after 440 days, following a series of consistent performances on the international circuit. Badminton Association of India celebrated the achievement on social media, praising the shuttler for overcoming injuries, difficult recovery phases, and setbacks to reclaim his place among the world’s best.
Lakshya has endured a challenging period over the past year, battling fitness concerns and inconsistent form. However, his recent performances have shown steady improvement and resilience against top level competition.
One of the biggest highlights of his season came at the prestigious All England Open in March, where he finished runner up after an impressive campaign. He also reached the quarterfinals at the India Open, Indonesia Masters, and Thailand Open, further boosting his ranking points.
Although Lakshya suffered an early exit at the Malaysia Masters this month after losing to Indonesian player Zaki Ubaidillah in straight games, his overall performances during the season helped him climb back into the elite group.
The Indian shuttler had ended the previous season on a strong note by winning the Australia Open title in November and securing a third place finish at the Japan Masters. He also finished runner up at the Hong Kong Open and claimed another podium finish at the Macau Open.
Despite those achievements, Lakshya experienced disappointment at the BWF World Championships after suffering a shock first round defeat to Shi Yu Qi of China.
Lakshya was also part of the Indian team that recently secured a bronze medal at the Thomas Cup.
The 22 year old will next compete at the Singapore Open, scheduled from May 26 to 31, where he will aim to continue his strong comeback run.
