MARGAO: With reference to the recent discovery of an infant’s feet at Tari Vaddo-Mandur, Bailancho Ekvott has said that the investigators must acknowledge that the disposal of body parts warrants respect for both the born and unborn.
“This incident cannot be dismissed as unimportant. Time and again, we have alerted the Goa Government to the alarming trend of infants being abandoned and dumped by the roadside—a matter of grave concern. Such lapses in investigation can lead to more heinous crimes, such as murder. “A stitch in time saves nine,” as the saying goes,” said Auda Viegas in a press note issued here.
She said the finding of an infant’s feet is indicative of foeticide or infanticide and demands a comprehensive investigation until proven otherwise.
“The Cabo de Rama case, initially presumed to be a suicide, was only correctly identified as a murder due to the diligent investigative skills of the South Goa Police, particularly the Cuncolim Police Team led by PI. Diago Gracias. Each reported incident brings migrant verification into question. Yet, action is seldom taken against those who rent out rooms without completing legal formalities,” she said.
Whether born or unborn, these victims are children of Indian soil, and we cannot turn a blind eye to such atrocities, she added.
“We insist on a thorough investigation into this incident, recalling that a few years ago, the body of an infant was found at Siridao and the case never reached a conclusion. The disposal of body parts must also be conducted with the dignity they deserve,” she says.
