VASCO: Built at the cost of crores of exchequer’s money, the neglect from the government authorities of the Baina Ravindra Bhavan and particularly the air conditioning system, is disheartening.
Post Covid19 pandemic, not a single cultural program in Ravindra Bhavan Baina has happened due to the breakdown of the air conditioning plant.
Sadly, the nonfunctioning central air conditioning system in the Ravindra Bhavan, which is due to the total collapse in the functioning of the Air conditioning plant, has kept the Ravindra Bhavan Baina away from any lively performances.
The Ravindra Bhavan Baina is where hundreds of cultural, social, and educational programs happened two years back.
A visit to the Ravindra Bhavan Baina Air conditioning plant revealed that the entire air conditioning plant had developed a high degree of corrosion due to the salty sea winds, which are directly hitting the plant, which is located in the proximity of the Baina beach.
Over the period, by taking these salty sea winds due to the chemical reaction of this metallic plant, the corrosion has developed in the system, which has led to the total breakdown of the plant, which is unrepairable as per the source from the Ravindra Bhavan Baina.
A source on the condition of anonymity said that a proposal to set up a new air conditioning plant had been sent to the Art and Culture department, and we are waiting for the approval of this proposal.
Social activist Xencor Polgi said that the government makes tall claims that they have undertaken development and support the local artists and their talent. To showcase these talents, they have spent crores of rupees building up Ravindra Bhavans all around Goa. But sadly, for the last two years, there is not a single cultural program in Baina Ravindra Bhavan due to the nonfunctioning of the central AC. “I urge Minister for Art and Culture to look into the matter and immediately take this AC plant for repairs,” he said.
The Ravindra Bhavan from Baina has vast halls with a mega number of seating capacity, for which the central air conditioning is a must.
Pradip N. said that we had seen several dramas, singing competitions, etc., in Ravindra Bhavan Baina a few years back. But we don’t know why after the Pandemic, no cultural programs are happening here.
Vasant, another visitor, said that the Ravindra Bhavan Baina is a platform where the local talent from the Vasco area is exhibiting their skills. They should start organizing programs in Ravindra Bhavan like before.
