PANAJI: The Sports Journalist Association of Goa, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, Goa Badminton Association, and the Panjim Table Tennis Club, organized a two-day Press and Media Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament that began on April 14 at the Indoor Stadium in Campal. The tournament saw the participation of media personnel from different media houses across Goa.
The opening day of the tournament witnessed some exciting matches in Badminton in the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, and Men’s Doubles categories. The matches were fiercely contested, and the players gave their best to win.
In the Men’s Singles Quarterfinals, Bambino Dias defeated Hemant Parab, while Akhil Sawant won against Shirish Kunkalkar. Amresh Parab defeated Niraj Prabhu, and Sachin Chatte emerged victorious against Vijay Kamble.
In the semifinals, Bambino Dias defeated Akhil Sawant, and Sachin Chatte won against Amresh Parab. Bambino Dias will now face Sachin Chatte in the Men’s Singles finals.
In the Women’s Singles semi-finals, Prachi Gaonkar defeated Shrishti Athanikar, and Trisha Naik won against Manisha Jadhav. The two finalists, Prachi Gaonkar and Trisha Naik will face each other for the title.
In the Men’s Doubles Semifinals, Bambino Dias and Sachin Chatte won against Akhil Sawant and Vijay Kamble, while Amresh Parab and Hemant Parab defeated Subhashish Govekar and Vincent Rosario. The finalists, Bambino Dias and Sachin Chatte will face Amresh Parab and Hemant Parab in the finals.
The tournament will continue on April 15 which will also feature events in Table Tennis. Earlier, the inaugural function was held where GBA Secretary Sandeep Heble, SJAG President Mahesh Gaonkar, SJAG Secretary Dhiraj Mahambre and Senior Journalist Niraj Prabhu graced the occasion, among others.
The Sports Journalist Association of Goa, along with the other associations and clubs, has done an excellent job in organizing the tournament, which has provided a platform for media professionals to showcase their skills in badminton and table tennis.
