PANAJI: Paresh Sinai Sawardekar, accused driver in the horrific Mercedes Benz accident case at Banastari has been granted 14 days judicial custody and shifted to Colvale State Central jail.
The court of the judicial magistrate first class, Ponda had remanded him first to two days and then to five days police custody, which was extended by a day.
He has been accused of driving the car in a rash and negligent manner while under the influence of alcohol. Paresh has already approached the High Court for bail. His bail plea will be heard on Aug 17. Anticipatory bail plea of his wife Meghana will be heard tomorrow, Aug 16
Large group of people from Diwar and surrounding areas held a candle light protest near the Gandhi circle at Old Goa today evening demanding justice for the victims of the horrific accident at Banastari.
Three people including a couple from Diwar had died in the accident while 3 others have been seriously injured.
Alleging that they do not trust the Mardol Police, the protestors demanded that the accident case be shifted to CBI or Crime Branch for free and fair investigation. Some also demanded judicial probe into the accident and the incidents that followed.
Cumbharjua MLA Rajesh Phal Dessai said he will meet CM Sawant along with delegation of locals tomorrow evening.
