PANAJI: Goa BJP president Damodar ‘Damu’ Naik has outlined the party’s political messaging ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, emphasising organisational discipline, the importance of the lotus symbol, a target of 30 seats and the role of grassroots workers in building the party.
Addressing party workers, Naik stressed that individual candidates should not take precedence over the organisation, using the lotus symbol to underline his message on party loyalty. He also challenged the Congress over its criticism of the BJP and questioned the opposition’s narrative about the handling of Goa’s interests.
In one of the key moments of his speech, Naik said that the lotus should be treated as the party’s candidate, regardless of the individual contesting from a constituency. His remarks highlighted the BJP’s emphasis on collective identity and organisational discipline as it prepares for the next Assembly elections.
The statement also signals a message to party workers and prospective ticket aspirants that the organisation and its electoral symbol must remain central to the campaign.
Naik also referred to the BJP’s electoral performance over the years and claimed that 52% of voters in Goa had supported the party. He invoked the elections of 2014, 2019 and 2024 while making his argument and questioned the opposition’s criticism in light of the figures he cited.
The 52% figure was presented as Naik’s claim during the speech; the specific election and vote-share calculation would need to be established from the full transcript and relevant Election Commission data.
Looking ahead to the 2027 Assembly polls, Naik reiterated the BJP’s target of winning 30 of Goa’s 40 Assembly seats. The target forms part of the party’s stated effort to strengthen its organisation and expand its presence across constituencies.
The BJP has previously announced the same 30-seat objective for the 2027 elections, with Naik calling for organisational strengthening across all 40 constituencies. \<Cite refs={[“turn951716search3″,”turn951716search4”]}/>
Taking aim at the Congress’ ‘Goa Bachao’ messaging, Naik questioned the opposition’s record and challenged its leaders to explain who had compromised Goa’s interests in the past. He urged BJP workers not to remain silent when responding to criticism, framing the issue as a political contest over competing accounts of the state’s development and governance.
Another part of his address focused on opportunities for ordinary party workers. Naik spoke about grassroots members who begin with basic organisational responsibilities, such as serving tea at a party office, and eventually rise to positions such as corporators or MLAs.
Through this example, he presented the BJP as an organisation in which workers can advance from the grassroots to elected office. The remarks highlighted the importance of cadre participation and the contribution of local-level workers to the party’s political structure.
Taken together, the themes of Naik’s speech centred on party loyalty, electoral ambition, the BJP’s response to Congress criticism and the advancement of grassroots workers. With the 2027 Assembly elections approaching, these messages form part of the party’s effort to communicate a unified political line and prepare its cadre for the coming electoral contest.
