PANAJI: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has granted bail to Kalpana Barki over furnishing personal bail bond of Rs 25,000 who is accused of murdering Basavraj Barki on April 2, 2018 at Bebquegal Curchorem.
It may be recalled that the victim Basavraj Barki was reportedly strangulated by his wife Kalpana Barki with help of her friends Suresh Kumar, Abdul Karim Shaikh, Pankaj Pawar and Aditya Gujjar. They later cut his body into pieces and stuffed it in three rice bags and dumped them at Dudhsagar.
Pankaj Pawar who was a government servant, along with Abdul Karim had moved bail applications and both were rejected on June 13, 2018 following which Abdul Karim moved the second application that was rejected on Wednesday.
Public Prosecutor Subhash Desai arguing against the granting of bail said, if released Abdul Karim would threaten the witnesses and intimidate Suresh Kumar who has confessed to the crime and further argued that there was every possibility of Abdul not appearing in the court for further hearings.
Besides, he pointed out that the crime committed was a cold blooded murder and heinous as they cut the body into pieces; if granted bail, he argued, it would take away the fear from people’s mind against committing such crimes.
