BETALBATIM: The people of Betalbatim are up in arms against a four-villa project proposed to come into their village.
The villagers claimed that the project is in close proximity to a chapel and also there is no gram sabha approval for it.
The villagers charged that they are already facing issues concerning shortage of drinking water, power fluctuations, no proper disposal of garbage and lack of sewage system.
The Sarpanch, however, informed the villagers that it is not a mega project but four individual villas with a swimming pool. He also said that the project has obtained all the required permissions.
The villagers said that they are aware of a new project proposed in our village and we have noted some findings to which we seek reviews in consideration to our present grievances.
“We see four villas planned with four swimming pools which cannot be permissible while we the present population are striving to get sufficient water for our basic consumption,” they said.
They said that also fear the release of the chemically treated water from the swimming pools into our lake which is quite near and would pollute Dar Lake which is a reservoir for our farming activities which in return will contaminate our fields.
“The whole process would get into our food chain which in turn will play further on our health as we are already caught up with health issues. It would also lead to contamination of the neighbourhood wells,” he added.
