PANAJI: The Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda will host the championship game of the second iteration of the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Memorial Trophy on September 6th. The competition will begin on August 24.
Two international teams will compete in the competition this year for the first time.The top-tier teams in their respective nations, Brisbane Roar FC from Australia and Clube Deportiva Defensa y Justicia from Argentina, are expected to up the ante in Goa tournament.
Govind Gaude, the minister of sports, spoke to reporters on Wednesday and expressed his excitement about the potential impact of the competition. “We’re going to make it bigger and better this year,” Gaude declared.
“We are going to include two foreign clubs, namely Brisbane Roar FC from Australia and Clube Deportiva Defensa y Justicia from Argentina.”
He said that these two international teams, who compete in their home nations’ premier divisions, are traveling to Goa to play.
Gaude emphasized the bigger picture for football in Goa. “We want to bring back Goan football and improve the game’s quality in the State. In the end, we can produce talent that can represent Goa and India on larger platforms by giving our local players priceless experience and exposure through the staging of such a prestigious tournament,” Gaude said.
We have chosen to charge Rs 100 per day (for both matches) for tickets to the East, South, and North stands, and Rs 200 per day (for both matches) for tickets to the West stand. The GFA office in Panjim, Fatorda Stadium (before to the start of matches), and Duler Stadium in Mapusa will all have the tickets available starting on August 23.
“I urge the football enthusiasts to come in large as I assure you that there will be entertaining and quality football on display,” stated Caitano Fernandes, president of the Goa Football Association (GFA). I also ask that parents and educators send their kids to watch and participate in the game.
