PONDA: A 55-year-old man from Bicholim died while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, a day after sustaining serious injuries in a self-accident near St. Joseph Church at Tankwada, Usgao.
According to police, a wireless message was received from GMC at 7.45 am on June 22 informing that Vijay Gurav (55), a resident of Bamai Pale, Bicholim, had succumbed to his injuries.
Enquiries revealed that the accident had occurred on June 21 and was registered as M.V. Accident No. 103/2026 at Ponda Police Station. Gurav was travelling on an Activa scooter along with his friend and pillion rider Mukund Naik when the vehicle reportedly skidded near St. Joseph Church, Usgao, causing both men to fall onto the road.
The injured were initially shifted to PHC Pilliem, Dharbandora, for treatment. While Naik was discharged after receiving medical attention, Gurav was referred to GMC Bambolim for further treatment due to the severity of his injuries.
Despite treatment, Gurav succumbed to his injuries on June 22.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama and referred the body for post-mortem examination at GMC. The police surgeon who conducted the autopsy certified the cause of death as “cervical spine fracture associated with head injury consequent to blunt forceful impact from surface and/or object.”
Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family members for final rites.
