PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central Government, alleging that it has become “a haven for culprits” involved in paper leak cases and is responsible for the deaths of 25 students by suicide linked to the examination scandal.
Addressing a press conference at Congress House in Panaji, Chodankar claimed that around 152 paper leak cases have taken place across the country over the past ten years, causing immense stress and uncertainty among students. He said every household with students has been affected by the recurring examination leaks, which have undermined confidence in the education system.
Media & Communication Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar, Youth Congress President Archit Naik, and NSUI State General Secretaries Kumar Arjun Gauli were also present at the press conference.
Chodankar said Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has consistently raised the issue to safeguard the future of students. Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, he said the initiative exposed serious flaws in the examination system and received overwhelming support from students demanding reforms.
He alleged that despite repeated paper leak incidents, there have been no convictions, which, according to him, reflects the government’s failure to act against those responsible. Chodankar also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accusing him of being insensitive to the concerns of students.
Highlighting the scale of the issue, Chodankar said nearly 7.5 crore students have appeared for various entrance examinations over the last decade, investing significant time, effort and financial resources. He maintained that paper leaks are a grave injustice to sincere students and must be stopped immediately.
He further claimed that nearly 25 students have died by suicide due to the emotional distress caused by paper leak incidents and urged the government to consider the suffering of their families.
Appealing to the youth to participate in Rahul Gandhi’s “Save Education, Save Your Future” campaign, Chodankar stressed the need for transparent examinations and alleged that corruption has crept into the recruitment and examination process. He also claimed that in recruitment drives, lakhs of vacancies attract crores of applicants, but those with access to leaked papers unfairly benefit at the expense of deserving candidates.
