MARGAO: “It is most unfortunate to realise that the BJP Government will continue with its mission of suppressing the Voices of Opposition in the new year 2023. Notification issued by the Goa Legislative Secretary today on the summoning of the third session of the eighth Legislative Assembly has once again exposed the anti-democratic agenda of the BJP Government,” stated Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.
Sharply reacting to the notification issued by the Goa Legislative Secretariat of just four days of the session from 16th to 19th January 2023, the Leader of the Opposition has said that BJP Government is worried about the Opposition.
2023 begins with Monday to Thursday 4 Day 3rd Session of the 8th Goa Legislative Assembly, with 3 Effective Days allowed for the Business of the House as 1st Day goes for the Governor’s Address. No Working on Friday resulting in No Private Members Business, No Private Members Bills & Resolutions, pointed Yuri Alemao.
“I am feeling sad that the Schedule released by the Legislative Secretariat will deprive me of my right to introduce a Bill or Resolution on Stopping the Unjust Practice of Widow Discrimination in Goa. I was assured by the Chief Minister in the last Session that Government will have detailed deliberations on the issue. It appears that Government is not keen to give respect, dignity and freedom to Women in Goa,” Yuri Alemao said.
In the last Assembly, Session Opposition made optimum use of Private Member’s Business Days with Private Member’s Resolutions & Bills demanding the Scrapping of 3 Linear Projects, Recognition for Chieftains Revolt of Cuncolim, Permanent Pension Scheme for Seafarers & others. Is Government worried now? Questioned Yuri Alemao.
“Our Opposition MLA Viresh Borkar had given notice for the introduction of Bill of Person of Goan Origin, Vijai Sardessai had given notice for a Bill on Employment to Goans while Venzy Viegas had prepared a Bill on Cruelty to Animals. Although the Bills were sent to Law Department last time, the Opposition will not get any opportunity even to give notice of the introduction of any Bills this time,” Yuri Alemao said.
“I hope the Speaker will convene the Business Advisory Committee meeting soon. I will raise the issue and demand that the first session should be a minimum of two to three weeks allowing Members for Private Members Business and also detailed discussion on the Governor’s address,” stated Yuri Alemao.
