PANAJI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest all 40 constituencies in the upcoming 2027 Goa Assembly elections, State President Damu Naik confirmed. Speaking at the party’s foundation day function in Panaji, Naik affirmed the BJP’s intention to go solo across the state, marking a decisive stance on its electoral strategy.
Initially highlighting the party’s focus on strengthening its organisational presence in all constituencies, Naik responded affirmatively when pressed on whether BJP would field candidates in each of the 40 seats.
“Yes, definitely, we have to fight all 40 seats,” Naik said.
However, he remained non-committal when questioned about a potential alliance with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), a former BJP ally. “When we say we will fight all 40, only we will fight. How we will fight, I will disclose at the right time. What should I tell you now? Keep some space for telling you things later,” he said cryptically.
Naik underscored the importance of ideological alignment and organisational discipline within the party. “We do not want to be blackmailed. We want like-minded people,” he said, alluding to the challenges posed by coalition politics and asserting the BJP’s preference for partners who share its vision.
“There should not be any people who blackmail. We need like-minded people. You can recall 2002 when Manohar Parrikar was Chief Minister. We were like-minded,” Naik added, taking a veiled swipe at senior legislators who, he claimed, tend to believe they are always right after multiple terms in office.
Naik’s comments suggest that the BJP in Goa is gearing up for a solo campaign, while still keeping some cards close to the chest regarding alliances and final electoral tactics.
