PANAJI: Tension gripped the city on Thursday after the North Goa Collectorate received an anonymous email threatening to blow up the building using an improvised explosive device (IED). The threat, which arrived earlier in the day, prompted an immediate security response.
Police sources confirmed that the Panaji Police, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), were swiftly deployed to the site. The Collectorate building was evacuated as a precautionary measure, and the surrounding area was cordoned off to ensure public safety.
“Search operations are ongoing, and all necessary precautions are being taken,” a senior police officer on site said. Bomb detection teams and sniffer dogs were seen combing through the premises as part of a coordinated security sweep.
Authorities have not confirmed whether any suspicious object has been located so far. An investigation has been launched to trace the origin of the email, which was reportedly sent from an anonymous account.
Traffic in and around the area has been diverted, and citizens have been advised to stay away from the vicinity until further notice.
Officials from the North Goa District Administration have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. “We are treating this as a serious matter and will not compromise on safety,” an official spokesperson said.
