PONDA: Borim Panchayat Body, in its meeting Chaired by Sarpanch Domingo Vaz, decided to hike house and commercial taxes after two decades.
Briefing to media, Sarpanch Domingo said Panchayat is struggling to meet various expenses. There is no revenue for Panchayat after the octroi tax, which earlier Panchayat was getting, is now being recovered by State Government since the past decade.
He said recently, there was a notification by Government to Panchayats to increase their revenue. As per government notification, the rates are high, but Panchayat has decided to implement them by reducing rates.
The government proposed rate for RCC is Rs 40 per square meter, while Panchayat had a fixed Rs 28 per square meter per year. Earlier, for the past ten to fifteen years, the rate per year per square meter for RCC was Rs 5; however, now onward, it would be Rs 28.
Similarly, for the masonry house government rate is Rs 40, while Panchayat has a fixed Rs 14 per square meter. For mud houses, the rate is fixed at Rs 50 per year.
For commercial tax, government proposed Rs 200 for the RCC structure, and Panchayat has fixed Rs 140 per square meter.
For Non-RCC, Rs 200 per square meter, while Panchayat has fixed Rs 70 per square meter.
