MAPUSA: The murder of the five-month-old infant by her own parents shocked Goa on the eve of 75th Independence Day.
This is the second such incident in a week after a lady from Chicalim killed her daughter and attempted suicide.
This is happening in our State despite the Centre and State government promoting “Bet Bachao, Beti Padhao”.
About the Mapusa incident, police said she was beaten to death by her parents with a wooden chakla (latne) used to make Rotis.
The Colvale police have since arrested the parents for the murder of own girl child.
According to police, on Sunday August 14, an FIR was registered at Colvale Police Station to the effect that in a rented room at Chapel waldo, Sirsaim Bardez Goa, accused lady Mrs Arminda Dora Fernandes, age- 32 yrs, and Sudan Gondlekar, age- 42 yrs, both R/o Chapel waddo, Sirsaim Bardez Goa with their common intension killed their own infant girl/, age-05 months using wooden Chakla locally known as “Latne”, thereby committing of murder.
In this connection, Colvale P.S. Cr No. 52/2022 U/Sec 302 r/w 34 IPC & section 8(2) of Goa children’s Act, 2003 stands registered against the above-mentioned accused persons on 14/08/2022. Shri. Shobit Saxena, SP, North Porvorim and Jivba G. Dalvi, SDPO, Mapusa, visited the scene of the Offence and are supervising the investigation.
Both the accused persons are placed under arrest and lodged in Lock-up.
Further investigation is in progress with PI Somnath L. Mahajik of Colvale Police Station.
The incident is indeed a shame to the entire nation as we celebrate 75 years of Independence.
