CALANGUTE: The Calangute Congress Block Committee has urged the Calangute Police to launch an immediate crackdown on alleged illegal and unauthorised activities, including spas, massage parlours, dance bars, late-night operations, touting and other unlawful activities in Calangute, Baga and surrounding areas.
In a memorandum submitted to the Calangute Police Station, Block Congress president Lourenco Xaverito Silverio said the committee was placing on record its “serious concern and strong objection” to the continued proliferation of such activities within the jurisdiction of Calangute Police Station.
The memorandum stated that the issue was not new or isolated, pointing to repeated police action, complaints and media reports as evidence that the problem had continued despite previous enforcement drives.
According to the Congress committee, a complaint in March 2024 regarding an unauthorised spa, alleged late-night activities and unauthorised construction in Calangute had resulted in a Panchayat site inspection.
The memorandum further stated that in July 2025, the Calangute Panchayat and police reportedly shut down two illegal spas and issued notices to five others, while the Panchayat had stated that several spas had recently been sealed.
The Congress also highlighted anti-touting operations undertaken by Calangute Police in the Calangute-Baga area in 2026 following complaints concerning solicitation and other alleged unlawful activities.
The committee has urged the police to take immediate and sustained enforcement action against establishments and individuals found violating the law, stating that repeated complaints and previous enforcement measures had failed to fully address the issue.
The memorandum was submitted to the Police Inspector, Calangute Police Station, seeking urgent intervention to curb the alleged illegal activities in the popular tourist belt.
