CALANGUTE: Calangute Village Panchayat Sarpanch Joseph Sequeria today has declined to comment on Swami Bhrameshanand’s controversial remark calling Calangute as Thailand.
“I cannot comment on statements made by Swami; he has spoken his stand. Someone must have given him an example which does make any difference. It’s been 15 days, only news of Calangute is coming out, rest of Goa there is nothing,” said Sequeira.
He further said that people come here have good time and when they go back they say Calangute is like this and that.
“Don’t simply call Calangute bad. Calangute is not bad, people here are very good. Calling calling bad indirectly points out to locals,” he added
Speaking on Salon and Spa, Sequeira questioned as to how can he comment on Spa and Salon as authorities do not know what happens at night.
“Give us police or staff then see what action we take on all illegal happenings in Calangute,” he added
“We will not rest until the stigma is removed from our village once for all,” Sequeira said.
Joseph admitted that people should not take the law into their hands and hold their horses and allow the panchayat to follow legal procedure in taking action against the illegalities.
Sequeira also said that there was a lot of pressure on him to go slow but he would respect the sentiments of the villagers over the issue on the dance bars and illegal touts.
Sequeira stated that the panchayat will move quickly to capture a tout if one of its members spots them or if they get word of it.
Sequeira recently released a public notice alerting the public to the fact that numerous individuals/touts operating within the panchayat’s jurisdiction are luring both domestic and foreign visitors to Calangute.
