Margao: Madganvcho Awaaz and youth leader Prabhav Naik has renewed the demand for granting tertiary care status to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), stating that healthcare infrastructure in South Goa requires immediate strengthening to meet the growing needs of patients.
Naik expressed gratitude to South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes for facilitating an Advance Cardiac Life Saving Ambulance through the MPLAD fund. He said the ambulance would significantly improve emergency healthcare response and ensure timely medical assistance for critically ill patients across South Goa.
While welcoming the addition of the ambulance, Naik stressed that the government must now focus on transforming SGDH into a fully equipped tertiary care hospital with advanced medical facilities. He appealed to Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to prioritise the upgradation of the hospital and strengthen specialised healthcare services in the district.
According to Naik, Madganvcho Awaaz has consistently highlighted deficiencies in healthcare services at SGDH and repeatedly demanded the establishment of a fully functional Cath Lab, Neuro Surgery Unit, upgraded ICU facilities, and improved emergency care infrastructure.
He also raised concerns over the lack of proper online payment facilities at the hospital, stating that patients and their families often face inconvenience during emergencies due to delays and difficulties in payment procedures. He urged authorities to introduce streamlined digital payment systems and more patient-friendly services.
Naik further referred to the accidental death of Shirish Pai Kane, after which a memorandum signed by several prominent citizens of Margao was submitted to the Health Minister seeking urgent improvements in healthcare infrastructure, specialist treatment facilities, and emergency preparedness at SGDH.
He said that although the new ambulance is a positive development, the government must take decisive steps to ensure that patients from South Goa are no longer forced to travel outside the district or state for specialised and critical medical treatment.
