CANACONA: Angered by inactiveness and inactions to take corrective measures on the treacherous, accident -prone and bad roads in the Canacona section, residents locked up PWD officers in Canacona on Wednesday.
The office/cabin of finding no presence of any officer in the PWD (Highways) Asstt.Engr cabin, the activists took the anger on Assistant Engineer PWD (Roads) and locked him for over two hours in his cabin.
‘Fatal accidents and bad conditions of Roads are taken very lightly by these officers, and does nothing to take corrective measures, informed Janardhan Bhandari.
Congress leader Bhandari and Goa Forward Party Environmental Cell Chairman Vikas Bhagat, joined by a few more activists, came to the Dy. The collectorate questioned the PWD but found no responsible officers in PWD (Highway), and the angry activists diverted their attention to PWD (Roads).
Activists lost no time seeing AE seated on his chair and locked/sealed the cabin from outside at about 10 am.
Bhagat informed accidents on Canacona roads have become habitual, and these officers remain mindless of the happenings.
This AE also failed/neglected to repair roads in Canacona even after repeated pleas.’
Interestingly, there was a commotion in the office as the activists refused to open the lock but finally relented after the arrival of police led by Canacona police.
Activists opened the lock in the presence of police and took assurance from the officer to start the repair works wherever needed, informed Bhandari.
