VASCO: Cattle pound shed for stray cattle, elimination of dark spots with proper garbage collection and immediately undertaking pre-monsoon work rocked the Mormugao Municipal Council meeting on Wednesday.
After a gap of some months, Mormugao Municipal Council held its pending council meeting on Wednesday in which series of burning issues such as development grants, elimination of dark spots where the garbage is being dumped by the people, proper management of waste, initiation of pre-monsoon works in the municipal area to avoid flooding in the town etc. were discussed in this council meeting.
After the meeting, Councillor Deepak Naik told the media that there were a few major issues, such as development grants which need to come to the municipality to undertake various developmental works in all 25 wards of the Mormugao municipal area.
He further said that there was also discussion related to the stray cattle which roam freely in town and create traffic jams and accidents. It was decided to shift these cattle in a Goshala. Naik also said it was decided to immediately undertake pre-monsoon work in the municipal area to avoid any flood-like situation which may take place if pre-monsoon works are incomplete. He also said that 40 labourers in each ward need to do faster pre-monsoon works. The contractors and labourers must get their wages on time.
Later, councillor Shami Salkar said that it has been observed that last year during the monsoon, there was flooding in the Vasco area, and to avoid such situations, there is a need to build cross drains and clean the drains. We have sent a proposal for building the cross drains, and emphasis will be on this work to avoid any flooding in the town.
She further said that a few dark spots in the town will also be cleared priority. Salkar also appealed to the councillors to identify dangerous tree branches that could be removed and trimmed under pre-monsoon works.
