PANAJI: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) approved a Rs 2.18 crore surplus budget on Monday.
“Last year we had allocated Rs 4 crore from the fund from the corporation for the development of the city,” CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate told reporters following the budget. We raised it to Rs 7 crore this year.
Revenue from house taxes has decreased to about Rs 3 crore. However, despite this, we were still able to generate a surplus of about Rs 2.18 crore. Our earnings from other services, such as ferries, have increased,” he declared.
According to Monserrate, the contractor was not sharing revenue with the corporation, so the CCP decided to remove the advertisements from the Smart City buses.
“The contractor was running the advertisement, but they weren’t splitting the profits. It was unlawful in theory. As a result, we removed all of their signage. As per the Smart City Mission, the corporation was expected to split the revenue. When something goes wrong, corporations are held accountable, he claimed.
According to the budget estimate for the financial year 2024–25, total receipts will be Rs 118.64 crore, as opposed to Rs 86.77 crore in the revised estimate for 2023–24 and Rs 71.97 crore in actual receipts for 2022–23.
Total spending for the budget estimate for 2024–2025 is Rs 116.45 crore, compared to Rs 84.27 crore for the revised estimate for 2023–2024 and Rs 61.50 crore for the actual in 2022–2023.
