CHINCHINIM: The discovery of a centuries-old idol of Lord Ganesha in Chinchinim has drawn attention to the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region, with social activist and political leader Savio Rodrigues calling for its preservation and scientific documentation.
Reacting to the discovery, Rodrigues described the find as a matter of great pride for the people of the Velim constituency and said it highlights the deep-rooted spiritual, cultural and historical legacy that continues to exist in Goa’s villages.
In a social media post, Rodrigues noted that despite the passage of time and prolonged exposure to the elements, the idol continues to display the remarkable craftsmanship of earlier generations.
He congratulated the local residents who brought the discovery to light and urged the concerned authorities and archaeological experts to take immediate steps to document, study and preserve the idol.
Rodrigues emphasized that such artefacts are invaluable treasures that provide insights into Goa’s rich past and should be protected for future generations.
