OLD GOA: The BJP has hit back strongly at Congress over its “Chanda Chor Bhavan” jibe at the party’s newly constructed Goa office, with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade defending the building as a result of workers’ contributions and hard work.
Sawant said Congress should stop making such statements, asserting that the BJP had built its office through its own efforts. He questioned the credibility of a party that, according to him, had failed to take care of both the country and its own organisation.
Tanavade said the BJP office was made possible through the “tireless work” and contributions of party workers. He said the land was purchased and its foundation stone laid when he was serving as the BJP’s state president.
Taking a swipe at Congress, Tanavade said the opposition party had a habit of making negative statements and believed it could gain votes by doing so. Instead, he claimed, Congress was losing public support through such behaviour.
Sawant said the new office would have designated spaces for the Goa BJP president, Chief Minister, general secretaries and MPs, adding that the building was expected to serve the party for the next 100 years.
The official inauguration of the BJP’s new Goa office is scheduled for September 6 in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
