Davos:
At the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu underscored India’s rapid evolution into a global economic powerhouse. Naidu’s address at a special session of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) painted a vibrant picture of India’s future, predicting that the country will emerge as either the world’s leading or second-largest economy by 2047.
Naidu’s presentation emphasized India’s significant contribution to global GDP, with projections indicating that India will contribute the highest incremental global GDP by 2027. This growth is rooted in the economic reforms initiated in 1991 and the ongoing second-generation reforms that have propelled India forward. Indian entrepreneurs, particularly those from Andhra Pradesh, are leveraging cutting-edge technology, demographic strengths, and entrepreneurial skills to make a profound impact on the global stage.
The Swarna Andhra Pradesh vision for 2047 was a key focus of the discussion. This ambitious plan is built around the government’s 4P model – public, private, people, and partnerships – aimed at driving economic growth and job creation. Naidu highlighted that this model will be instrumental in boosting the state’s and the nation’s economic prospects.
The launch of the CII Centre for Global Leadership on Competitiveness (GLC) was another significant announcement during the session. This industry-led and industry-managed center will focus on enhancing value-based leadership, corporate governance, and global leadership competencies. An Exchange of Letter of Intent between CII and Switzerland’s IMD Business School marked the beginning of an international collaboration to support this initiative.
Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to green energy and sustainable manufacturing was also a central theme. The state aims to become a hub for green hydrogen and green manufacturing, aligning with India’s broader aspirations for sustainable energy. Rajiv Memani, President-designate of CII and Chairman of EY India, stressed that green energy is not just a necessity but a critical enabler for India’s growth ambitions. He noted that to achieve its growth targets by 2047, India’s total energy consumption needs to reach 370 billion gigajoules, with green energy playing a pivotal role.
The sessions at WEF 2025 were attended by other key figures, including N Chandrasekaran, Executive Chairman of Tata Sons, Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of JSW Group, and David Bach, President of IMD Business School, Switzerland. Their discussions underscored the importance of collaborative efforts and innovative strategies in driving India’s economic growth and sustainability goals.
