CANACONA- Canacona health officials alongwith NGO Goenkar held a pre-monsoon malaria Awareness program and Cleanliness Drive at Palolem on Friday.
The health team consisting of CHC medical officer dr. Navjyot Haldankar, Sanitary Inspector Pranay Naik, IEC officer Nilima Bhagat, Nurses and other staff, and team Goenkar, first held a pre-monsoon Malaria awareness program at Palolem.
Dr Halarnkar gave detailed information about malaria and how it spreads, and how to take precautions and practice preventive measures to avoid such diseases.
Goenka NGO General Secretary Vikas Bhagat, Ajay Pagi, Gaspar Coutinho and others attended a program.
After that, all the participants and four hired labourers began cleaning the drive from main Palolem Beach to Ourem and collected around 20 dry garbage begs from the beachside and roadside.
Stating that it’s a small step toward clean and green Canacona,Gaspar Coutinho, who is also Congress Minority Cell Canacona president, informed us he continued with the cleanliness drive till Sunday and collected 40 bags filled with waste. “On the first day, we collected 22 garbage-filled bags from residential localities of Palolem, the second day picked strewn wastes from Palolem main Street, Ourem and Palolem and Ourem Internal streets and collected 12 bags, while on Sunday collected another 8 bags of Garbage from Palolem point to Ourem end of the beach sands,” he said.
According to Coutinho, in place of earlier 8 beach cleaning women, now only three inadequate women are engaged to clean the Beach, resulting in keeping the Beach untidy most of the time.
Coutinho also thanked CMC for lifting all the garbage bags.
