MARGAO: Chinchinim’s first-ever futsal ground, developed under the MLA Local Area Development (LAD) Scheme, was inaugurated on Monday by PWD Minister Digambar Kamat in the presence of Velim MLA Cruz Silva.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Cruz Silva said the MLA LAD Scheme has enabled legislators to undertake development projects that directly benefit local communities. He said the futsal ground was created to provide quality sports infrastructure for the youth while strengthening Chinchinim’s long-standing football tradition.
Silva thanked PWD Minister Digambar Kamat for facilitating the speedy processing of the proposal for the futsal ground. He also urged the Minister to extend similar support in expediting other development projects in the Velim constituency.
Addressing the gathering, Digambar Kamat said developmental works proposed by Cruz Silva for the welfare of the people of Velim have always been given priority.
“You will experience something different the moment you step onto Chinchinim’s futsal ground. This is a village of footballers and football. I congratulate all the footballers of Chinchinim on getting this first-class facility inaugurated today,” Kamat said.
The Minister also lauded the initiative to create quality sports infrastructure for young people and expressed confidence that the new facility would help nurture future football talent from the region.
During the programme, former footballers from Chinchinim who had represented the village at the national and international levels were felicitated for their contributions to the sport.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by local panchayat members, club officials, sports enthusiasts, youth, and a large gathering of villagers.
