VASCO: The long-pending dream of home ownership for hundreds of families moved closer to reality on Thursday as Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant distributed Goa Housing Board allotment letters to beneficiaries at New Vaddem in Dabolim.
A total of 544 tenements have been allotted under the Goa Housing Board project. In the first phase, around 150 beneficiaries received their allotment letters, while the remaining letters will be distributed in phases over the coming days.
Addressing the gathering, Dabolim MLA and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho described the occasion as a historic milestone, saying the project was about providing dignity and security to families who had waited for years to own a home. He thanked the Chief Minister for supporting the completion of the project and appealed for the waiver of Housing Board charges, noting that most beneficiaries belonged to economically weaker sections.
Responding to the appeal, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant announced that beneficiaries would have to pay a maximum of ₹10,000 towards Goa Housing Board charges, significantly reducing their financial burden.
The announcement was greeted with applause from the beneficiaries. Dr. Sawant reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent deserving families from owning homes and said affordable housing would remain a key welfare priority.
Goa Housing Board Chairman Jit Arolkar said the Board would continue distributing the remaining allotment letters in phases and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering transparent and affordable housing projects across the state.
The programme concluded with beneficiaries expressing gratitude to the State Government and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho for facilitating the long-awaited housing project for 544 families.
