PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday announced stricter monitoring of garbage contractors through GPS-based tracking linked to the state’s Solid Waste Management facilities, as the government intensified its focus on sanitation, environmental infrastructure and employment generation in Goa.
Addressing the Goa Occupational Safety and Health Expo & Summit 2026, Sawant said the government has spent substantial funds on strengthening waste management systems and warned that accountability in garbage collection and disposal would now be closely monitored. He maintained that keeping villages clean was critical to ensuring overall cleanliness across the state.
The Chief Minister said the state is simultaneously expanding infrastructure for chemical and bio-waste treatment, besides developing Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) to tackle rising environmental and sanitation concerns.
In a parallel push towards employment, Sawant said around 1,300 vacancies were generated during a mega job fair held at the Verna Industrial Estate in collaboration with GHRDC, with participation from 25 companies. He said appointment letters for selected candidates would be issued shortly and urged industries to partner with the government in increasing employment opportunities for Goan youth.
He further announced that similar recruitment initiatives would soon be introduced in other industrial estates across Goa.
Highlighting workplace welfare, Sawant said industrial growth cannot be separated from worker protection and safety. He stressed that economic development must also ensure stability, security and peace of mind for employees and their families.
