PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today has directed the Director of Panchayat and Director of Municipal Administration to instruct all Secretaries and Chief Officers to provide a list of illiterates in their respective Panchayat or Municipal areas.
CM Sawant held a review meeting to discuss the New India Literacy Mission.
During the meeting, CM Sawant instructed the Director of Panchayats and the Director of Municipal Administration to direct Secretaries and Chief Officers to provide a list of illiterates in their respective Panchayat or Municipal areas.
Sawant also directed them to issue a certificate confirming that the ward, locality, village, or city is literate.
Further, the Chief minister also reviewed the ULHAAS Scheme, with Sawant instructing the Director of the Directorate of Social Welfare to consider using Panchayat Halls as UMID centers in areas where a centre has not yet been identified.
Goa has set its sights on achieving 100% literacy by May 30, 2024. Already 1,500 illiterate people have been identified in the state under the New India Literacy Programme (NILP) and classes are being conducted for them.
