PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that State government will grant Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh compensation to the families whose houses have completely collapsed during the recent flash floods in the state.
Sawant also informed that compensation will be dispersed to families before August 15. Sawant was replying to a calling attention moved in the house today.
“Govt will grant Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh compensation to the families whose houses have completely collapsed during the recent flash floods. compensation will be dispersed to families before August 15,” he said
He further said that the houses with significant damage will be paid Rs one lakh. In contrast, houses that suffered minor damage will be compensated to the tune Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 by September to October this year.
“I am trying to give maximum compensation to the affected people by adding an additional amount on behalf of the state government to the compensation recommended by National Disaster Management Authority(NDMA),” he said.
The flash floods resulted from the intense rainfall of 15 to 25 centimetres within 3 days in the Tillari and Mhadei Basin.
Nearly 500 homes were damaged, and a similar number of persons had to be rescued, as heavy rains for the eighth consecutive day caused flooding in Goa’s hinterland, especially villages located in the lower reaches of the Western Ghats mountains.
