MAPSUA: Social activist and Congress leader Sanjay barde has filed a complaint against Electricity Department in charge of giving Electricity illegal connections to the scrap yards at Colvale without any valid documents.
He said the illegal electricity connection was given to the Scrap yards at Colvale, which led to a fire that broke out on the 28th of December, 2022 morning at the illegal scrapyard in Colvale.
“The cause of this fire accident was Short Circuit as per the sources. Now the question arises. How can the Electricity Department issue Electricity connection to these illegal Scrap Yards without the permission / NOC of the Village Panchayat of Colvale, without the construction license for these scrap yards, and that too the connection is Commercial,” he said.
He said that when a common man approaches the Electricity Department, he is given a list of documents to be produced to obtain a simple domestic connection. If that person cannot produce the required documents, his application is declined. So, if a common man is facing these issues, how come these scrap yard owners can obtain the COMMERCIAL electricity connection without producing any documents.
He said the day the fire accident occurred at Colvale, the fire became a massive nuisance to the locals, polluting the vicinity. As per the news reports, the Panchayat had ordered to shut down these scrap yards in 2021. No
precautions were taken to look after the functioning of these scrap yards.
“More injuries might have been caused if the Fire and emergency services had not taken the situation under control. Only the Electricity official who had given them permission for electricity connection. I, therefore, request you to take strict action against the officials who have given illegal electricity connections to these scrap yards in Colvale,” he said.
