Pune:
In a poignant address during the 77th Army Day celebrations at the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre in Khadki, Pune, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh underscored the evolving nature of warfare and the imperative need for a robust military to ensure national development. On Wednesday, Singh emphasized that the future of conflicts will be marked by unprecedented violence and unpredictability, driven by the rise of non-state actors and the escalating use of unconventional warfare tactics.
Singh’s remarks were delivered at ‘Gaurav Gatha’, a dynamic event featuring lights, sounds, and live re-enactments of warfare, highlighting the critical role of the military in maintaining national security. He pointed out that the dynamic geopolitical landscape and rapid technological advancements are transforming the character of warfare, with cyber and space domains emerging as new battlegrounds.
“The emergence of non-state actors and their resort to terrorism is a significant concern,” Singh stated. “Future wars will be more violent and unpredictable, involving not just traditional battlefields but also cyber and space domains. The military must focus on comprehensive capacity building and reforms to address these challenges.”
The Defence Minister reiterated the importance of a strong military and secure borders in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. “India is transitioning from a developing to a developed nation, and every section of society must contribute to this goal. However, their contributions will only be meaningful if our security apparatus is foolproof and our borders are secure. A robust security system relies on a powerful military,” Singh explained.
Singh also highlighted India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing, noting that domestic defence production reached a record Rs 1.27 lakh crore in the last financial year, while defence exports surged from Rs 2,000 crore a decade ago to over Rs 21,000 crore. “A country like India cannot depend on other countries for its security. We are now manufacturing military equipment on Indian soil and exporting it, which is a significant step towards achieving ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in the defence sector,” he said.
The Defence Minister announced that 2025 will be the Year of Reforms in the Ministry of Defence, with a focus on modernizing the Armed Forces through strategic partnerships and technological collaborations. He expressed confidence that these efforts will make India’s military one of the strongest in the world.
During the event, Singh also virtually laid the foundation stone for the Army Paralympic Node in Dighi, Pune, and felicitated ‘Veer Naris’ and the next of kin of brave soldiers, acknowledging their sacrifices and courage.
