PANAJI: The Congress on demanded a Supreme Court-monitored judicial inquiry into the alleged financial irregularities involving donations made to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, alleging that the matter amounted to an organised loot of public contributions.
Addressing a press conference at Congress House in Panaji, former MP and AICC In-charge for Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Rajani Patil alleged that people had donated their hard-earned money for the construction of the Ram Mandir, but those contributions had been misused. She held the BJP, RSS and VHP accountable and sought their response over the allegations.
Patil claimed that while the Ram Mandir Trust was constituted under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, individuals associated with the trust were allegedly involved in the irregularities. She alleged that influential people were behind the alleged organised crime and questioned the Prime Minister’s silence on the issue.
Calling for a thorough investigation, Patil demanded that the inquiry be monitored by the Supreme Court and that the matter be debated in Parliament. She also sought the arrest of Ram Mandir Trust Chairman Champat Rai, alleging that action against lower-level staff alone would not uncover the full extent of the alleged irregularities.
Congress Working President and MLA Adv. Carlos Ferreira demanded that FIRs be registered and said the alleged scam should be investigated comprehensively. He alleged that those responsible could not escape accountability by merely resigning from their positions.
Media Chairperson Amarnath Panajikar alleged that the BJP had politicised Lord Ram and criticised the silence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Goa BJP President Damodar Naik over the issue. He claimed that devotees from all sections of society had contributed towards the temple and deserved transparency regarding the utilisation of the donations.
The Congress leaders reiterated their demand for an independent judicial probe, maintaining that the truth behind the alleged financial irregularities should be brought before the public.
